Flowers For Any Occasion

Some men may think that flowers should only be given at Valentine’s Day, birthdays, or anniversaries, but really flowers make a great gift for any occasion.

I recall my teen years when a guy had to not only come pick me up for a date, they had to – Agh! – meet my parents for the first time and get grilled by my Dad. I remember one fellow actually brought my mother flowers to help pave the way. I guess that was a bit of overkill, but both my mother and I dearly love flowers. Naturally, my parents were far more approving of him than they otherwise might have been.

I remember my college days. I spent the summer working at a upper scale retirement home as a waitress. There were four of us who worked there who I called my Monday friends – two guys and two girls. We all had Monday off. One guy rented a car. We would go visit different fun spots in nearby areas every Monday. That guy had taken a shine to me. He actually bought me yellow roses for one of our dates. I absolutely adore yellow roses. The bouquet I pictured does not match, but I found it on one of my favorite flower ordering sites – 1800 Flowers.com. If you read my previous blog, you may know why I am one of their greatest fans. They literally saved me from feeling guilty forever and they saved my mother from feeling like she had a daughter who didn’t care. I am very grateful to them.

While I’m on the subject of that company, I noticed they have a cool promotion going on. They have a 1800Flowers coupon codes promotion where you can get 10% off your flower order. In this economy, 10% off is nothing to sneeze at. Hmmm! Now, how do I get my husband to read this blog and get the hint. It may not be my birthday or our anniversary, but …, like I said before, flowers are good for any occasion.

Speaking of my husband, he is very romantic. Especially when we were dating, he would show up every now and then either with flowers from his garden or a bouquet of flowers he picked up at a floral shop.

At one time, I used to crush one of the flowers from each bouquet or corsage I received and save that flower in a scrap book. I also knew of a woman who used to crush flowers she received. Then she would put the prettiest ones together on some really nice paper, arrange them in an artistic manner, and get them framed. They made wonderful gifts.

Well, I think I will publish this blog now and send it to my husband’s e-mail. What do you think? Will it work? Do you think I’ll be receiving a flower bouquet anytime soon? Smile.

Have a great day, Everybody! I hope you receive (or give) a gift of flowers soon. You deserve it! Your gift recipient deserves it as well.

Flowers Not Only Make A Great Gift, They Can Save The Day

My mother is now in her early 80’s. When it comes to her birthday or Mother’s Day, I like to either give her flowers or take her out to a nice meal. She enjoys being treated to a meal, for sure, as she has grown quite tired of the same-old, same-old routine of having to cook a meal for early on, a family of five, and now her husband. I don’t blame her. If you’ve been the main one responsible for putting a meal on a table for years and years and years, that could grow quite tiring.

The advantage of treating her to a meal is that she feels pampered and treated for that one day. Naturally, I include my father in on the treat as well. I couldn’t imagine treating her but making him pay for his own meal. So a gift of a restaurant meal benefits them both. That’s a good thing.

There is a greater advantage to giving the gift of flowers. In that case, my mother will have the flowers to enjoy for a few weeks. She can show them off to her friends. She often has her picture taken next to the bouquet. She especially loves gift baskets. She loves not only the beauty of the basket. She loves and adores the beauty and scent of the flowers.

There is one birthday in particular that I recall with a bit of shame. I was teaching at the time. It was a very busy time at school. It was also a busy time in my personal life. One day, I picked up the phone to hear my Dad’s voice tell me that I had forgotten my Mom’s birthday. I was devastated to have goofed-up like that. I lived a couple of hours away. Her birthday fell in the middle of the week. I felt so bad. She was such a fine lady and woman and mother. I still cringe to this day recalling this event.

Naturally, I needed a quick solution. I quickly got on the internet. I needed a flower company that could not only send flowers, I needed a flower company that provided same-day service. You can imagine my relief when I discovered 1800Flowers.com. They actually had a pretty big selection of flower bouquets and gift baskets that they could send the very same day. The flowers pictured above have a similar look that I recall ordering for her. I ordered the flowers. They did indeed arrive the same day.

So, just to make certain my mother realized how much I loved and treasured her, I also called her to let her know that I was taking my Dad and her out for a meal that coming weekend. So that year, my mother got to feel special and pampered in two ways, beautiful flowers from 1-800 Flowers.com and a delicious meal at one of her favorite restaurants.

Please, Let Me Not Be Ashamed

Aggie's mother was dead. She had to serve as part-time farmhand, cook, and housekeeper for her father in this new town. As Aggie in her old clothes saw the finely dressed ladies, she prayed, "Let me not be ashamed."
