Amos Tamam

Amos Tamam jumped from resident of Israel to resident of New York City in the early 1980’s. He jumped from training as an electrical engineer at Tel Aviv University to servicing taxi cabs in a fleet garage in NYC. What makes the story transform from somewhat ordinary to extraordinary is what happened next. When he discovered that so many taxi drivers were frequently robbed, he decided to work out a solution. What is that solution? Thanks to his expertise and ingenuity, many taxi drivers can now accept credit cards. Now, Amos Tamam is the CEO of Verifone Transportation Systems, Inc.

In late July of 2007, thanks to Amos Tarmam, 13,000 New York City Yellow Cabs were outfitted with the technology to make wireless credit card transfers. Just imagine the benefits to the business traveler who will no longer need to carry so much petty cash. He or she can make more accurate expense account records. The cab drivers also will not need to carry as much cash, thus making the temptation to rob them be less.

Amos Tamam does not intend to stop there. He is now working on bringing this new technology to other cities around the country. Just think of the great benefits. That’s what I call a win-win-win, all the way around.
